In order to give 774 local government areas (LGAs) in Nigeria dependable internet connectivity, the federal government has started an initiative.
Dr. Bosun Tijani, minister of communications, innovation, and digital economy, announced the initiative named “Project 774 LG Connectivity” in a post via X on Monday. He said the project is a significant step towards fulfilling President Bola Tinubu’s mandate to provide effective public service to Nigerians at the LG level and aligned with his ministry’s strategic blueprint.
According to Tijani, the project will make use of Galaxy Backbone and Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited’s (NigComSat) current infrastructure to offer connection throughout the nation.
“As we deploy across the country, Project 774 LG Connectivity will create at least 300 direct jobs, and there may be additional jobs created indirectly from the growth in digital access,” stated Tijani.
It is also a major step in fulfilling the current administration’s mandate to provide effective public services to citizens at the local government level and it is in line with our ministry’s strategic blueprint.
“The project will provide resources and promote transparency in service delivery, stimulate economic growth, and improve citizen engagement through strategic partnerships and the deployment of cutting-edge technology.”
“With the power of connectivity, the project is expected to drive transformation and unlock opportunities that will deliver sustainable development to all.”
Additionally, Dr. Bosun Tijani stated that the delivery of government services as well as the advancement and growth of the nation’s economy depend heavily on the fields of healthcare, education, infrastructure development, social welfare programs, and local government administration.
